Handling protocols

  • Reject or remove coconuts with cracks, visible mold, leaking liquid or serious impact damage.
  • Clean the exterior before opening and use clean tools and food-safe surfaces.
  • Once opened, refrigerate the coconut flesh and water immediately in clean covered containers.

Storage tips

  • Store whole fresh coconuts in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight, heat and excess moisture.
  • For longer household storage, especially in hot or humid weather, refrigerate the whole coconut to slow quality loss.
  • Once opened, refrigerate the coconut flesh and water immediately in clean covered containers and use promptly; discard if mould, leakage, unusual discolouration or a sour/fermented odour develops.
